App: Uchi Energy (the “App”)

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles and how. Where a term has a precise legal meaning under Japanese law (e.g. 個人情報 under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, APPI), that meaning applies.

The App is designed for use in Japan and works with Japanese household electricity data.

Summary

  • The App analyses your electricity usage entirely on your device.
  • Your consumption data, your chosen tariff plan, and any smart-meter readings never leave your device, and are never sent to OhayoStudio.
  • The only thing the App sends to OhayoStudio’s server is your region code (e.g. “tokyo”, “kyushu”), so the App can download that region’s public electricity price and carbon-intensity data. No account is required.
  • To estimate weather effects on your usage, the App sends approximate location coordinates directly to a weather data provider (Open-Meteo). It does not send this to OhayoStudio.
  • The App sends anonymous crash reports (stack traces and device model only), scrubbed of any personal data. You can disable them in Settings.
  • Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). OhayoStudio does not see or store your payment information.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only in the App’s local database on your device and is never transmitted by the App to OhayoStudio:

  • Electricity usage you import (CSV files and the consumption records derived from them)
  • Smart-meter readings obtained via B-route, if you use that feature
  • Your selected tariff plan, contract details, and any custom rates you enter
  • Your region, prefecture, household size, and appliance list
  • Derived analysis (bills, comparisons, load shape, savings estimates)
  • App preferences (language, theme, text size)

If you uninstall the App or use “Delete all data” in Settings, this information is permanently removed from your device. No copy is held by OhayoStudio.

What the App sends off-device

1. Region code (to OhayoStudio’s server). The App requests the public grid signal — electricity price and carbon-intensity data — for your region. To do this it sends only your region code. This data is identical for everyone in a region; the request contains no consumption data, no tariff, no account, and no identifier tied to you. The server keeps no per-user records.

2. Approximate location (to the weather provider, Open-Meteo). To estimate how weather affects your usage, the App fetches historical temperature for your area directly from Open-Meteo (operated by Open-Meteo, processed in the EU). This uses approximate coordinates for your region/location. It is not routed through OhayoStudio. Open-Meteo’s handling is governed by its own privacy policy.

3. Smart-meter cloud services (only if you opt in — B-route). If you connect a smart-meter bridge that uses a manufacturer’s cloud — for example Nature Remo E — your meter readings pass through that manufacturer’s cloud service under your own account with them. This path is off by default and clearly marked when you enable it, because it means data leaves your home network. If you instead use a fully local bridge (e.g. a Wi-SUN device on your home network), readings stay on your device/LAN. OhayoStudio never receives B-route data in either case.

4. Anonymous crash reports. Enabled by default; you can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy. When the App crashes or hits an unexpected error, a report is sent to our error-tracking provider, Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., processed in the EU region). Each report contains:

  • A stack trace identifying where in the code the error occurred
  • Device model (e.g. “iPhone 15”) and OS version
  • App version and locale (ja / en)
  • A randomly generated installation ID that resets on uninstall

Each report is scrubbed before sending to remove consumption data, tariff details, meter readings, location, file paths and filenames, and any free-text input. We do not enable session replay or performance tracing. Crash reports are retained for 90 days. If you opt out, no crash report data is sent.

Subscription and purchase data

The App uses RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA) to manage purchases (a one-time unlock and/or subscription). When you purchase, RevenueCat receives from Apple or Google:

  • An anonymous purchase identifier
  • Purchase / subscription status (active, expired, in trial)
  • Country of the store account
  • Approximate age range of your customer record in RevenueCat’s system

If you request a refund through Apple or Google, RevenueCat may share your total spend, previously granted refunds, and the approximate age of your customer record with Apple or Google to help them evaluate the refund request and prevent abuse of the refund system. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email address, or payment information.

OhayoStudio uses this data only to verify entitlement and to receive aggregated revenue reports. We do not contact you using this data.

What Apple and Google handle separately

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Apple and Google collect their own data when you install, run, and pay for the App, including your Apple ID or Google account, payment information, download and purchase records, and device identifiers used for store functions. OhayoStudio does not receive your payment information; we receive only aggregated, anonymized reports that do not identify you.

  • Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy

What the App does NOT do

  • The App does not connect to your bank, your electricity retailer’s account, or any utility login on your behalf to fetch data — you import your own files, or read your own meter via B-route.
  • The App does not send your consumption, tariff, or meter data to OhayoStudio.
  • The App does not read your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera.
  • The App does not display advertisements.
  • The App does not contain third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising SDKs.
  • The App does not sell, rent, or share any user data with anyone.
  • The App does not use your data to train AI models.

Your rights under APPI

Under Japan’s Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI), you have the right to request disclosure, correction, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, to withdraw consent for crash reporting, and to file a complaint with the Personal Information Protection Commission (個人情報保護委員会).

Because we hold essentially no personal information about you (just an anonymous crash-report ID, if enabled), most of these rights are satisfied by using “Delete all data” in Settings, disabling crash reporting (existing reports auto-expire after 90 days), or uninstalling the App. For any other request, contact jerome@ohayostudio.com. We will respond without undue delay.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The App contains no advertising, no social features, no chat, and no user-generated content visible to others.

Translation

This policy is published in Japanese and English. The Japanese version is the authoritative text. In case of any discrepancy, the Japanese version prevails.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy if the App’s data practices change. The “Effective date” at the top reflects the current version. Material changes will be highlighted in the App release notes at least 30 days before they take effect.
